A new building at 711 E. Broadway in Gainesons new neighborhood of Oakwood is on the verge of getting a $3.4 million facelift and is set to open later this year.
Gainesville’s Oakwood Apartments project is one of several apartment developments planned for the neighborhood.
Oakwood Apartions owner James Lee said the project is “an important piece of the neighborhood that will benefit the entire community.”
He said he was thrilled to have the project approved.
The apartment building will include a 5,600-square-foot garage and will have an attached garage and a garage deck, a kitchen, laundry and a full-service restaurant, he said.
He added that the project will feature “sustainable” energy, and a laundry service and a rooftop garden.
There will be two other apartments on the ground floor, which will have a total of 4,500 square feet of living space, he added.
“We are going to be building a community of people that will live in peace and harmony and in harmony with the surrounding communities,” Lee said.
He said the garage will be a “green space,” a “natural amenity” and a “lifestyle” amenity.
His company, Oakwood Properties, was also involved in the $1.5 million faceltift at the former Oakwood Tower, which opened in 2005.
I am very proud of the progress that has been made, he told The Times.
At least 1,300 people live in the Oakwood project, which is a mixed-income neighborhood.
